Our history is the story of our past, our collective memory, and our experiences. It is a story of who we are, where we come from, and likely headed. Our history is a source of our identity, how we’ve evolved and developed over time. Our history helps us become informed and therefore helps us become better people, better citizens, through the mistakes we've made and the lessons we've learned. Our history provides us a mirror to test our morals and values against our ancestors they’ve faced and overcome. The history of our ordinary people who have successfully worked through moral dilemmas offers us lessons in courage, persistence, and values worth persevering. Knowing what events led to our people's tragedies helps us influence our decision-making and our future. Therefore, we must honor our history and work hard to make more of it together.
